03 / A closer look
Modern type, expressive brushwork, and the right character forms. Find the lettering that fits your words.
Enter up to 20 Chinese characters or bring a name from our Chinese Name Generator. Browse All fonts for the full collection, or choose Calligraphy for a focused selection of brush fonts. Filter by Simplified or Traditional Chinese and font style, adjust the size, color, background, and direction, then copy an image or download a PNG at 3× size.
Switching collections keeps your text and image settings. If your selected font is in the new collection, it stays selected; otherwise, the editor chooses an available font. This workspace suits names, short phrases, name cards, logo sketches, game titles, social posts, and tattoo references.
Use the Calligraphy collection as a Chinese calligraphy generator within this tool. Compare the same text, such as 翰墨生香, in Ma Shan Zheng for a formal brush-lettered appearance, Long Cang for a loose running-script look, and Liu Jian Mao Cao for more cursive strokes. Zhi Mang Xing adds expressive brush lettering. Start with clearer character shapes when a name needs to be easy to read.
These Chinese calligraphy fonts supply existing letterforms. The result is a font-based image, not a newly handwritten work or an AI brush painting. The collection helps compare visual styles; it is not a complete catalog of traditional Chinese scripts. Use the same canvas to compare brush effects with the other font categories.
Noto Serif SC and TC give Chinese names and headings a polished Song-style appearance. Noto Sans SC and TC suit clean labels and modern layouts. LXGW WenKai TC offers relaxed handwriting with Taiwan character forms, while ZCOOL XiaoWei, QingKe HuangYou, and KuaiLe provide distinctive display lettering.
The full collection also includes additional brush and handwriting styles when available. Each font card describes its character and usage terms. Choose All fonts to compare these styles alongside the curated calligraphy selection.
Simplified and Traditional Chinese are character forms, not font styles. A brush font does not change the spelling of your text: 行云流水 becomes 行雲流水 only when you explicitly convert the characters. Traditional conversion uses Taiwan forms. Undo conversion restores the previous text, collection, filters, and selected font until you edit the text again. Review personal names because some simplified characters have more than one traditional equivalent.
Coverage varies by font. Some styles, including Kouzan Running Script and Yuji Syuku, come from Japanese projects and retain Japanese character forms. Their Traditional Chinese grouping does not guarantee support for every hanzi. Read the font description and any missing-character message; some Google Fonts previews may use a fallback for rare characters.
Choose Vertical to arrange a short inscription from top to bottom. Exported text that needs additional columns continues from right to left. Horizontal lettering suits wider name cards and headings. The tool is designed for names and short phrases rather than full poems or complex scroll layouts.
Try 翰墨 (hàn mò, brush and ink) or 墨香 (mò xiāng, the fragrance of ink) for a compact comparison. 翰墨生香 (hàn mò shēng xiāng) evokes brush and ink giving off fragrance, while 行云流水 (xíng yún liú shuǐ, drifting clouds and flowing water) suggests natural movement in writing. Compare the four-character phrases to explore rhythm and spacing.
Copy text copies the current Chinese characters without the font style. Use Copy image to preserve the appearance in an app that accepts pasted images, or Download PNG to save the lettering as an image. Choose Transparent under Background to place Chinese calligraphy or other styled text on your own design. The paper surround in the preview is not included in the PNG.
Previewing and image exports are free. Commercial use depends on the selected font’s license, summarized on its card. For tattoos, brand marks, and other lasting uses, confirm the Chinese meaning as well as the lettering. Changing a font does not translate an English name or correct an awkward Chinese phrase.
Before you export
About Chinese fonts, calligraphy, and taking your image with you.
A Chinese font generator lets you enter Chinese characters, compare font styles, and export the styled text as an image. All fonts shows the full collection; Calligraphy focuses on selected brush and calligraphy fonts in the same editor.
Yes. Paste your Chinese name, choose the Calligraphy collection, and compare the brush fonts. If you only have an English name, use the English-to-Chinese name tool first. Changing a font does not translate your name.
Copy text copies the current Unicode characters without font styling. Use Copy image to preserve the style in apps that accept images. If your browser does not support image copying or denies clipboard access, download the PNG instead.
Yes. Paste traditional text and filter by Traditional Chinese, or use To Traditional to convert simplified text. Noto Serif TC, Noto Sans TC, and LXGW WenKai TC are available in All fonts. A collection only shows filters for the fonts it contains; filtering alone does not convert your text.
Yes. Undo conversion restores your previous text, font collection, filters, and selected font until you edit the text again. Traditional conversion uses Taiwan character forms and is not always reversible by converting back, so use Undo to recover the exact earlier spelling.
Yes. Choose a brush font and select Vertical under Direction. Characters run from top to bottom; exported text that needs more columns continues from right to left. You can copy the result as an image or download a PNG.
The images use existing fonts. The same character in the same font uses the same letterform. This is a calligraphy-style rendering of your words, not a new handwritten work or an AI-generated brush painting.
Every font has its own character set. Some styles lack simplified forms or rare hanzi. When a font reports a missing character, choose another font or explicitly convert the text if that spelling is appropriate. Conversion does not guarantee support in every font.
Yes. Choose a font in the Calligraphy collection, select Transparent under Background, and use Download PNG. The same free image export works with all font styles. Commercial usage depends on the selected font’s license.
